Purpose:
The ITSSD Advisory Board was formed to guide and assist the ITSSD as it undertakes projects and engages in activities involving research and analysis, public education and outreach, and institution building in fulfillment of its nonpartisan and nonprofit charitable mission - to promote a positive global paradigm of sustainable development.
Focus:
The ITSSD Advisory Board shall function primarily as a knowledge resource that can help the ITSSD to craft and deliver workable programs to national and international policymakers in both developed and developing countries. Such programs will emphasize the importance of designing and implementing rational, objective, and cost-effective (least-trade-restrictive) best available science and technology policies that neither impair economic output nor discourage innovation. They will also highlight the importance of establishing and enforcing strong intellectual property right protections which can lead to the kinds of scientific and technological breakthroughs that:
Generate sufficient and sustainable economic cash flow and market returns; |
Promote local capital and R&D reinvestment and foreign direct investment; |
Raise local education standards and facilitate international academic and scientific cooperation and exchanges; |
Foster local entrepreneurship and the creation of formal as well as informal indigenous markets; |
Contribute to the formation of more local knowledge-based and higher paying jobs, better human health, a cleaner environment, lower poverty rates, and a higher quality and dignity of life; |
Permit and encourage greater international diffusion of technologies; and |
Prepare developing and emerging economies to participate more fully in the global trading system. |
